What is West Texas Veterinary Specialists (WTVS)?
West Texas Veterinary Specialists (WTVS) is a specialty veterinary practice providing board-certified internal medicine, surgery, and oncology teleconsultation services to partner veterinary hospitals across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. WTVS works collaboratively with primary care veterinarians to manage complex cases while keeping patients close to home.
Is WTVS a brick-and-mortar specialty hospital?
No. WTVS is a mobile and teleconsultation specialty service. Our specialists travel to partner veterinary hospitals and provide specialty care using the host clinic’s facilities, staff, and equipment.
Are WTVS veterinarians board-certified?
Yes. WTVS works exclusively with board-certified veterinary specialists, including:
- DACVIM (Small Animal Internal Medicine)
- DACVS-SA (Surgery)
- DACVIM (Oncology – Teleconsultation)
Board certification reflects advanced specialty training and rigorous credentialing.
Referral & Scheduling
How does the referral process work?
All cases must be referred by the primary care veterinarian. The referring clinic submits medical records through the WTVS referral portal. Once reviewed, scheduling is coordinated through the partner hospital where services will take place.
Do pet owners contact WTVS directly?
Pet owners may contact WTVS with general questions, but specialty services require referral through the primary veterinarian. This ensures continuity of care and compliance with veterinary regulations.
Does WTVS replace the primary veterinarian?
No. WTVS does not replace the primary veterinarian. The referring veterinarian maintains the veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) and remains responsible for ongoing care and follow-up.
Where are appointments held?
Appointments take place inside partner veterinary hospitals throughout the region. This allows pets to receive specialty care in a familiar clinic without traveling long distances to a specialty center.
