Veterinarians in Amarillo and throughout the Texas Panhandle now have access to advanced internal medicine support through West Texas Veterinary Specialists (WTVS). Led by Dr. Kirk Sears, we provide board-certified internal medicine services designed specifically to support referring veterinary clinics in the region.
Our goal is simple: deliver specialty-level care while preserving the veterinarian-client-patient relationship and minimizing the need for patients to travel outside of West Texas.
Amarillo Service Schedule
Dr. Kirk Sears provides internal medicine services in the Amarillo area every other Monday. This consistent schedule allows clinics to plan for advanced case support while maintaining continuity of care.
If a case requires more immediate evaluation, we are happy to help coordinate care in Lubbock.
Internal Medicine Services for Amarillo Veterinary Clinics
Our internal medicine service focuses on complex, chronic, and diagnostically challenging cases. We work collaboratively with primary care veterinarians to develop diagnostic and treatment plans tailored to each patient.
Common referral cases include:
- Chronic gastrointestinal disease
- Endocrine disorders (diabetes, Cushing’s, Addison’s)
- Immune-mediated conditions
- Hepatic and pancreatic disease
- Complex or unresolved medical cases
Oncology Tele-consultation (Available Daily)
WTVS also offers oncology teleconsultation services led by Dr. Avenelle Turner. This service is available daily and provides referring veterinarians with access to board-certified oncology expertise for case review, treatment planning, and ongoing cancer management support.
This allows clinics in Amarillo and the surrounding region to access oncology guidance without delays or the need for patient travel.
A Referral-Based Approach That Supports Your Practice
WTVS is built around a collaborative model. We do not replace primary care — we strengthen it.
For Amarillo-area clinics, this means:
- Maintaining control of your cases
- Direct communication with a board-certified specialist
- Seamless integration of specialty recommendations
- Improved patient outcomes without referral loss to distant markets
Bringing Specialty Care Closer to the Texas Panhandle
Historically, access to veterinary internal medicine specialists required travel to larger metropolitan areas. WTVS helps bridge that gap by extending specialty services into Amarillo and surrounding communities. Panhandle veterinarians can now offer their clients access to board-certified expertise close to home — strengthening practice capabilities and improving the standard of care available throughout the region.
Serving Amarillo and Surrounding Communities
We support veterinary clinics throughout Amarillo, Canyon, Borger, Pampa, Dumas, and the surrounding Panhandle communities. We also serve clinics in Midland–Odessa and across West Texas from our Lubbock hub.
Prefer to Be Seen Sooner in Lubbock?
If a pet owner prefers not to wait for the next Amarillo service day, we are happy to help coordinate an earlier evaluation in Lubbock. We can also provide recommendations for local partner clinics to help facilitate scheduling and continuity of care.
